Meet the candidates we supported in 2021

  • Genesis is running to represent District 6 in the Orange County Legislature, NY. A first-generation Honduran American and lifelong resident of the city of Newburgh, NY, Genesis understands the importance of representation. Her working class upbringing, coupled with a public sector career has given her passion with a plan. Genesis is committed to challenging the status quo and leveraging better outcomes for her community by creating equitable outcomes around economic development, healthcare, and environmental issues in her community.

  • Melanie is running for Ward 3 of Lenexa City Council, representing a suburb of Kansas City, KS. A bilingual clinical counselor and art therapist, Melanie was driven to run for office because she recognized that the social justice work in her therapy had to go beyond her office. Melanie exudes humility and empathy and one conversation with Melanie will leave you feeling inspired.

  • Jason is running for District 4 in Atlanta’s City Council. Jason is a nonprofit professional and community organizer who served with distinction in the Army, earning the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal during his tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. Raised by a single mother on the east side of Atlanta, Jason has fought tirelessly to make the Mechanicsville neighborhood safer, reduce displacement, and make roadways safer for kids and seniors. As City Councilman, Jason would work to preserve those institutions that make District 4 so special and ensure Atlantans have a seat at the table.

  • Nick is running for Minneapolis City Council, representing Ward 7. Nick’s energy and passion about making Minneapolis a better place is contagious. A natural coalition builder, Nick understands how to engage constituents in making transformative change in public safety, housing, a caring economy, and climate change. With Nick in office, there is no doubt that Minneapolis can be more of a city that belongs to everyone.

  • Evan is running for Cincinnati City Council to fight for a Cincinnati that works for all residents, not just the wealthy and well connected. Evan is a lifelong renter and Cincinnati resident who was raised by a single mother who has been a Social Worker in Hamilton County for over 26 years. Evan is committed to elevating the material living conditions of Cincinnati’s working class citizens and his platform of affordable housing, livable wages, funding social services, ending cash bail, and anti-racism reflect that.

  • Liliana is running to represent District 5 in Atlanta’s City Council. Speaking with Liliana about her community and why she is running, the words “fierce advocate” immediately come to mind. A longtime SE Atlanta homeowner who grew up organizing in her community from a young age, she is a committed community activist. Her experiences growing up as the daughter of immigrants and as a queer Muslim woman in the South have fueled her advocacy of social justice, women and children’s issues, and affordable housing.

  • Briana Sewell is running to represent Virginia’s 51st District in the House of Delegates—representing Prince William County. A proud product of Prince William County, Briana believes in government as a force for good. She has experience as a District Director, community organizer, and Chief of Staff to the County Chair. Speaking with Briana leaves no doubt as to why she is so well respected in the community and that she’ll be ready to legislate on day one.

  • Delegate Joshua Cole is running for re-election representing the 28th district of Virginia representing Stafford County, Virginia, and Fredericksburg, Virginia in Northern Virginia. As one of the youngest members of the Virginia General Assembly and first black person to hold the seat in over 40 years, he understands the importance of making sure everyday people have a seat the table. Delegate Cole has deep roots in his county and has that magical ability to work across the aisle to solve the issues that impact his constituents the most. He knows there is more work to be done and is ready to continue the fight.

  • Richie is running to represent District 8 of the St. Petersburg City Council. A science teacher, community activist, and engineer, Richie is a fierce champion of the working class. Respected in the community, Richie’s issues are affordable housing, social justice, climate change, and an economy that works for everyone.
